How to Change Google+ Profile Link and Set a Custom URL

Did you set a custom URL for your Google Plus Profile?

When you just setup your google+ account your URL has a lot of numbers and look something like this:

Once you get 10 followers you can change those numbers to your name or a name of your company and set a custom URL for your page.

For changing your Google plus URL:

• On your page go to the about tab and scroll down to the «Links» section.
• Find the header “Google+ URL > click Get URL.

Then you will see which URL you can choose. Lucky you if you can set the URL, which you want.

Some people see a message

Many people have the same name. Add a few extra letters or numbers to this URL to get one that is unique for you.

I got this message too. It means that instead of the name I want to get, which is https://plus.google.com/+MarinaBarayeva/, Google wants me to add other characters. This name was free. Theoretically, it could be used by other people (one day… in the future…). But I want to use it for myself!

How to set a custom URL for your Google Plus profile

First, you need to change your google+ profile name. At the top of the page click on your name and remove some characters. Just in case if something will not work well, I left the first letter of my last name.

When you try to save new changes you will get a new warning:

“People change their names infrequently in the real world, so Google+ limits how often you can change your profile name. Learn more
Changing your profile name changes it in all Google services that require a Google profile. Please note that it may take some time for this change to be fully applied. Learn more”

Click “Save” and update the page.

Then go to the about tab and scroll down to the «Links» section again. Find: Google+ URL > click Get URL. Now you can add the rest characters of your last name or the name you want to get.

Check the box “I agree to the Terms of Service” and then click “Change URL.”

After that, you can change your google+ profile name again.
